Synetix is ICI's specialty catalysts business. It focuses on the sales
of catalysts and services in the markets of ammonia, methanol, oil
and gas, chemicals, oils and fats and polymerisation.
In 1999, Synetix acquired J&J Dyson's catalyst business and gained
a stronger presence in the refinery market. In the same year the business
won a Queen's Award for Environmental
Achievement for its 'Hydecat' process, which neutralises sodium hypochlorite
(a by-product of chlorine) by turning it into harmless salt and oxygen.
Synetix has a leading global position in catalysts with more than
5,000 customers in 85 countries. With R&D centred in the UK, production
is concentrated in Germany, India and the UK.
