Regional
Businesses comprise several businesses which are more local in their
scope in Pakistan, India and Argentina.
In
Pakistan and India, ICI operates through partly-owned subsidiary
companies that have a portion of their equity share capital traded
in the securities markets of the countries concerned.
Pakistan
- ICI Pakistan has interests across a number of different market
sectors, of which polyester staple fibre and soda ash are the most
important. The former is sold into the textile industry while the
latter is used mainly for the manufacture of soaps, detergents,
glass and paper. Other sectors are agrochemical products used in
rice and cotton, and seed production.
India
- ICI India's business comprises rubber chemicals, pharmaceuticals
and explosives. The former includes accelerator antioxidants and
retarders manufactured at facilities near Calcutta. The pharmaceuticals
business, based in Chennai, has a strong brand image in ethical
pharmaceuticals, especially cardiovascular, anti-hypertensive and
anaesthetic products.
Argentina
- ICI Argentina manufactures a wide range of industrial chemicals
including sulphur products, phthalic anhydride used in plasticisers
and resins, and polyethylene. Its most important activity is the
production of chemicals from wine industry by-products for export
around the world. These are principally tartaric acid for use by
the food and pharmaceutical industries, and wine alcohol for the
beverage industry.
